Lake Art Road Trip – Day 2 Today was all about slowing down, creating, and enjoying the simple things. The kids started the morning with free time in the studio, fishing, and exploring around the lake before we headed off to learn about the art of weaving. We discovered how looms work, tried weaving ourselves, and some students even had the chance to spin wool into yarn. It was such a neat hands-on experience! It was a hot Kansas day, so we cooled off at the local pool. I think our group may have doubled the population of the little town for the afternoon! 😆💦 Back at the lake, we fired up the grill for supper, then created nature weavings using treasures we found outside. As the evening slowed down, we learned how to play Chinese Checkers, gathered around the fire for s'mores, and ended the night watching the fireflies dance across the sky. These trips are about so much more than making art. They're about trying new things, building friendships, appreciating small-town communities, and making memories that will last long after the week is over.

Day 1: Lake Art Road Trip What a fun first day! We left the high school at 8:30 a.m this morning and made our first stop in Lindsborg, Kansas, at Small World Gallery. One of the highlights of the day was visiting with National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson. It was incredible to meet the man behind the camera whose photographs are on display in Cuba, Kansas. He shared stories from his travels, answered our questions, and even let each of us choose one of his photo prints to take home. We also enjoyed browsing the beautiful artwork and jewelry in the gallery before making a quick stop at the Swedish candy shop. 🍬 From there, we headed to Wichita for lunch before visiting Grow, a plant bar where students designed and created their own terrariums. We also spent some time exploring public art around downtown before making our way to the lake. After getting settled, the kids couldn't wait to get outside and explore! We wrapped up the day with supper at a local favorite, where we tried their famous baked potato pizza. 🥔🍕 The evening was filled with even more creativity as we explored local sculptures, had the opportunity to visit with one of the artists, and finished the night with a hands-on ceramics workshop, creating our own clay flowers. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings! 🎨
