Reminder of 1 hour late start on Wednesday, December 9, for USD 109.
Please see the attachment for information regarding tomorrow night's high school basketball game at Concordia. The link to view the game is included in the attachment as no fans are allowed.
KSHSAA's Board of Appeals just voted 7-1 in favor of sending the decision of no fans at winter sports events through Jan. 28 back to the board of directors. The new meeting where the BOD will reconsider allowing 1-2 parents per attendee will be held next Tuesday at 1:00pm.
As of 3:30pm on Thursday, December 3, USD 109 is planning for Grades 7-12 to return to on-site, in-person learning on Monday, December 7, with activities resuming as well. All mitigation protocols and KSHSAA/state guidelines are in place. The cases in the county remain high; however our students need to be back in school, all athletic teams will all be off quarantine and there are only few cases amongst our students right now in the jr/sr high school.
Please continue to remind yourself and our students to stay home if they are feeling ill.
As Republic County is one of the top 25 counties in the nation right now in regards to the number of cases per capita, it is crucial to practice social distancing, wearing a mask and regular hand washing/sanitation not only in school, but as we are out and about in the community as well.

Dear Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade Families -
As we navigate through Covid-19, many activities present challenges for us to balance following our safety protocols while still making sure students are able to participate. One of those activities is our program. The December 4th Christmas Program for Kindergarten and 1st and 2nd grade will be postponed and the format will look a little different this year.
On Wednesday, December 16th, we will have 4 programs during the day. The programs will be held at the Blair.
8:30-9:00 - Miss Sheets and Mrs. Strnad’s Kindergarten Classes
10:00-10:30 - Mrs. Richecky and Mrs. Wheeler’s Kindergarten Classes
1:00-1:30 - 1st Grade Program
2:30-3:00 - 2nd Grade Program
Each program will have safety procedures in place for our students, their families and our community.
Masks are required.
Temperature checks for all visitors
Capacity will be limited to 25% - Tickets will be provided for each student for admittance
We will do our best to make the program available online to those guests not able to attend in person.
While not ideal, we are excited the students will be able to share their program with you. One of our goals this year is to adapt as many of our activities as possible, instead of canceling them. Thanks to Mrs. Gallion for all of her hard work with the students and coming up with a creative solution for our students and their families.
We are Better Together!
Thanks,
Katie Struebing,
East Elementary Principal
Republic County staff is the best! East Elementary art teacher, Ami Price, works with a student at home. Thank you Chandra Bates for the picture and sharing. Thank you to all of Republic County USD 109 staff for the extra efforts in this unprecedented time.
For Fire Prevention week the Kindergarten classes at East Elementary got to go visit the fire station and get a special ride on a fire truck. Here is Miss. Sheets Kindergarten class on their fire visit. We learned about fire safety and what to do if we are ever in a fire.
